Vince, Have you ever been to the whisky a go go at all in a non doors capacity or even socialising? thoughts on the whisky?.

I have been to the Whisky a gogo many years ago when it was still in the original format. Some friends wanted to see the place so I went.

Mind, I do not normally go to such places, famous clubs or not. I don't like the noise, I am not a socializer (Quite shy in fact), I do not drink nor di I smoke cigaerttes or other Stuff. At a club, by myself, I am really just an uncomfortable shy, lonely, intelligent, sober guy.

the whiskey became a place to go to see and be seen. Who knows why any place becomes such a gathering place but it surely did. It was dark, booths around the walls and 3 or 4 seat tables in the center up to a point near the stage which was quite high above the floor.

The stage was also small so a 4 or 5 man band with drums and such had little room for elaborate equipment. The whiskey was small so the group could really have a fair amount of appeal to all present and audience comment could be clearly heard on stage. This gave the opportunity for a tete a tete between performers and their listners.

The whiskey we a place of meeting - producers, managers, record people, promotors would all go there to see what was on stage. The management of the Whiskey had their own talent search. If you were popular there chances were that you were on the way to some kind of fame. Some groups made it and some did not. I remember one such - an unknown group from Venice that became the unofficial House Band. They missed a performance and got fired. I have always wondered what become of them.

But for me, I was not a bar fly. I went only at the behest of others so they could enjoy the experience.
