#1 "Frank Sinatra Sings Only For The Lonely" (1958)
#2. In The Wee Small Hours (1955),
Frank Sinatra
[/quote]Frank reCORDED A TRILOGY if albums which in effect were a song cycle of moods....
1) "In The Wee Small Hours" (1955) was about heartache...and has been noted as maybe the first pop concept album.
2) "Songs For Swinging Lovers" (1956) was an upbeat album of love & longing styled swinging songs...."I've Got Got You Under My kin".
3) "Frank Sinatra Sings For only The Lonely" (1958)...Frank's divorce from Ava Gardner was official, and collaborator Nelson Riddle lost two close family members--Riddle said "that if one can attach events like those to music..."Only The Lonely would be the result".
Riddle left, after four of the slotted songs were recorded, to tour with Nat King Cole...and those mixes were not used, but the influence is there.
The album cover resembled a tragic. Pagliacci-like clown portrait of Sinatra...very dark.
There are three albums in between 1956 & 1958, and they are by no means slackers, but these are masterpieces.
But now I have to restatemy confession to you all!! Q's number one STONER album is.......drum roll....wink, wink
Frank Sinatra Sings For Only The Lonely"!!
I was so over-saturated with facts and figures, they were switched a birth!!
All three are amazing examples of the best of any era, and In The Wee Small hours could as easily make the list, but...
Now that I've sorted out my muddled brain...
I have to agree...
The #1 STONER album has to be "Frank Sings For Only The Lonely"!! ("In The Wee Small Hours" can take SECOND place!!
Only The Lonely"
