The Whisky opened on January 16, 1964 with Johnny Rivers and a short-skirted female DJ Rhonda Lane, spinning records between sets from a suspended cage at the right of the stage.

I’m sure it sounded something like this…

Arthur Lee and Love sang about the Whisky scene with “Maybe the People Would Be the Times or Between Clark and Hilldale”

a magical tune from Arthur...

If you were around in the 60s, you might have been lucky enough to see The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield or the house band, The Doors. Van Morrison’s band Them had a two-week residency in June 1966, with The Doors as the opening act. If you were really lucky you were there on January 2, 1969 when Alice Cooper played with an opening act billed as Led Zeppelin featuring Jimmy Page formerly of The Yardbirds

All during the month of January The Whisky will have numerous bands playing for the Whisky A Go-Go’s 50th year anniversary. Get out and enjoy!
